The atmosphere is outstanding. I would describe it as casual but elegant. But the best kept secret is Friday nights. That's when Ansel Couch entertains. This gifted singer-guitarist plays all your favorite acoustic music. He is especially good with 60's and 70's. If you're a babyboomer and names like Simon/Garfunkel, the Beatles, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, etc. mean anything to you, you will not be disappointed. The crab cakes were excellent and so was my service. If you are into acoustic music, have dinner on a Friday at the Garden Cafe and top it off with a concert at the Sylvia Theater.

I have been to this restaurant many times with groups or just a couple and every time the food was outstanding and the service was tops. I look forward to my next visit and am happy to spread the word about this hidden gem.

WORST service in my LIFE!!! Don't go with a group, whatever you do! In 1-1/2 hours I received ONE glass of water, with NO refills. When I went to the cash register area to get more, a waitress was offended and haughty at MY annoyance! I said that I was served my food and had finished it and was tired of waiting for a refill. She was argumentive and said that they were doing "the best they could" and she was sorry, in a completely sarcastic tone, as if I was unreasonable. Then when I paid, I was given NO bill, just told the total. I wondered why it was so high and only paid an extra dollar for the tip since it was such poor service. NOW I realize the tip was included in the total, yet the cashier didn't tell me! She let me walk away quickly without pointing that out, nor offering me any change. As I was leaving, one lady server was interested, and lent an apologetic ear, but then the OWNER came out and joined in with the same EXCUSES as the first RUDE server. The owner pretty much erased the improved feelings that the nice lady had created. Don't know when or IF I'll EVER go back to Garden Cafe!!

Each time we eat here we talk for days about how good the experience was. The atmosphere is very unique, the owner really knows how to make shappy sheek feel classy. The waitresses are friendly - but busy. The music is one or two guys singing mood music - adds a nice ambiance. The value for your money is by far the best I've seen in the area. My favorite, though, is the buttermilk pie. It is so good!!!! In fact all the dessert are homemade and exceptional.

Great atmosphere, great food and great music. They had a guy playing guitar, his own great version of all the rock style songs you know (softly so you could converse and enjoy your dinner or have an appetizer and a drink). The food was unbelievable. I had the Salmon grilled on a cedar plank and it was the best i ever had. It's quaint and romantic but caual and fun. Highly recommnended!
